Default 402 camshaft recommendation

I understand cam-profiles now...thanks to this wonderful board...so now I'm trying to decide on a custom cam grind. The camprofile posts in the Advance section are very general but lack results. It's all relative it seems. I hope this thread takes off with lots of diffent profiles. So here's what I've got.

I've got a 402 with ported LS6 heads flowing 348/246 cfm @28" H2O at 0.600" valve lift

I need a good cam profile recomendations to start with for a to be "Super Spirited T/A. Looking for lots of low end grunt and an awesome midrange while keeping the thirstyness of gasoline in mind while cruising on the highway. For example 224 224 .595 112, and then describe how it is going to behave after a good tune with my application or something similar. It would be great if you had estimates for power, torque, throttle response, and cruising cruising mileage.

I'll take your recomendations and hone in on what I need like increasing LSA a bit for mileage, etc, based upon what I know of cam profiles.

for midrange and lots of low end i'd probably stick with a cam in the upper 230s or low 240s.maybe something like a 238/242 with around.610-.630 lift.

Default mileage consideration

Right now I'm getting 22 mpg on the freeway with a baby 204 218 .550 LSA 117; its the LS6 cam. How would going to an upper 230's cam change mileage after a good tune? Lets asume an LSA of 112-114

The cam in my stock displacement ZO6 is a 232-236 .595/.601 on a 114+4 LSA and I get great mileage on the highway. (28+) Heads are cnc ported, angle milled 2.055 I/1.60Ex LS6 heads 11.25 CR..Car has plenty of low end grunt and makes great power all the way to the 6800 rev limiter. IMO, a stroker motor needs a pretty big cam, and I would consider one like mine a bare minimum for a stroker. HTH

Thanks for all of the advice. I've been considering some custom ground cams from the sponsors and I'm getting a bit hung up on RPM range. Lets say I were to choose a cam with a 3000-7000 rpm range, how would this affect cruising down the highway at 1700 rpm. What kind of torque would I see down this low. Also my car is an M6. What rpm range would be best?

In my opinion if you want the best of both worlds, I would use a 240/246... .600 lift or a little over on a 114. Driveability will be great, and with a decent set of heads fast 90 intake you should make around 500rwhp. I built a few of these engines in the past couple of years, and that is the best combo for street fun that I could find!!

I went with a 234/238 113 LSA in my 408

cant comment on results though... still waiting on a set of ETP 245 heads.
