Default LS1 or LS2? Is it worth it?

I currently have a 408 iron block lq4 Callies 4" crank, JE 4.030" bore pistons, pretty radical cam (for street/cruising use), and full bolt-on/suspension car. The motor above is made for 200-250 n2o. I will be pulling it due to getting married, and wanting to cruise more and go places in the car or enjoy it more. I was going to put in my 347 but a busted block will prevent that from happening so since I have to buy a block anyway. Would you reccomend going for an ls2 or an ls1? I haven't done much research on the ls2 yet but I do know that the timing chain sensor and knock sensors have changed and Katech makes something to where an ls1 computer can still be used. Is this all I would need? Plans for the motor would be full suspension/bolt on car still, but with a milder cam, 224/228 .538/.544 cam (already have this) and AFR 205cc Heads (already have as well) with 918 springs (just replaced). If someone can answer a few questions I would greatly appreciate it.

If going to an ls2 will result in more power (obviously it will, more cid) how much roughly can one expect?
What else if anything other than the ls2 timing chain, timing sensor, and knock sensor, will I have to replace to get this to work?
I'm assuming ECM will need to be tuned accordingly right?
What is the crank size on an ls2, 4.00" or still 3.622"?
What is bore size, 4.00" right?
Will heads, headers, oil pan, lifters still work on the ls2 off of an ls1, and which if any will be needed for clearance issues?
Will a FAST 90 intake work for an ls2, I have seen the charts where an ls6 and an ls2 are very close but the FAST intake has both by a little and I have one so will it work?
Are all ls2 tb's electronic, if so will a fast 90 work with this set-up? I don't how it couldn't.
Any other additional info I need to know to do the conversion?
I went to Katech's website but couldn't find a price or even a description for the knock sensor thing, how much are they if you have priced/bought one?
What would you reccomend doing to an ls2 before putting it in, ie pistons, bearings, rods, any weak links discovered?

Once again, sorry if all or any of the questions above seem stupid, sorry. I haven't done my homework yet. I was going to ask to see if it was even worth looking into first. If the same power can be made from a 347 then I won't bother since the ls2 block is higher priced. But in my mind it has to make some extra power due to bigger cubes, am I wrong?

I would go with an LS2. The main reason is cubic inch for your dollar. You might have a little more money in it over a 346, but you will have alot more options should you ever decide to do something different.

You will need the following parts to make the change:

*LS2 front cover
*LS2 Valley cover
*LS2 timming set
*LS2 timming chain damper
*Katech Cam, and knock sensor extention
*Rear cover bolts (same as side main cap bolts)

Basicly thats it. All of your other LS1/LS6 parts will work. When you go to install your knock sensors in each side of the block you will find a threaded hole next to the motor mounts that should work perfect.

Your ECM wile tune just as it would if it had an LS6 in it. It will never know the difference. A nice mild cam, some AFR 205's..... hmmmmm yea this will be a nice street cruzer.

By the way congrats on getting married!!

Thanks alot for the reply. I have started doing some research and I do think that I am going to go this way. Even if it is a little more cash. I haven't had the time do the research like I need to be able to do but I am "keeping my eyes open" for a block. Just making sure I am not getting myself into more than I can handle.

thanks again
