I used to be a big fan of Katech (built my past 3 WC engines), but they don't seem to want the business of the little guys anymore. The doubled the prices on my last engine build, and were over a month late in getting it to me.

Obviously a reputable company IF you've got unlimited TIME and MONEY!

yup, there is a point of diminishing returns on engine builds... they have exceeded 99.9% of the typical weekend racers needs with a price tag that exceeds 99.9% of the typical weekend racers budget

kinda like a ferrari.. you get slightly better designs for ALOT more $$

yeah a total bummer when I first posted I thought I was gonna get blasted but what in the heck is $22,000 about? seriously if you have to ask you can't afford it, and to think what I could do with $22,000 from the ground up or with nothing is absolutly scary 600-700hp would be the start try 1000-1200 horses or more!!!!!!! But once again all in IMO

Would it be possible or wise to build a LS1 402 (4.00"bore x 4.00"stroke) using the shorter 6.064 LS7 titanium rod. I know a down sized version of the LS7 piston would be needed to fit the smaller 4.00" bore but would it clear the LS1's reluctor wheel?

I was also thinking of using stock LS1 rods with the above mentioned 402 and keeping engine revs under 6200 rpm. Is the rod strong enough and where can I get custom pistons for this project?

The engines come as they do from GMPP in regards to what comes with them. No front drive, harness, PCM etc.. We can quote and supply all those items for you.

That's absolutely false! I'm in the process of building a 427 right now and each of these parts individuley has been priced.I'm not bitching about the price....I am just stating that for money there could be alot more to be had if you took the time to do most of it yourself. I think alot of their pricing is based on their name and reputation and that does go a long way. Let's wait and see what the shortblock price is and I will then decide if they are even in the ballpark for the average blue collar guy out there. Traver

There's the key word. Our engine builders have a minimum of 8 years of race engine building experience. Most have 20-30 years. You can do anything yourself cheaper, whether it's building an addition on your home or building a race engine. When you want to pay for the expertise, you hire the professionals.

Those prices seem very high to me. Are these just regular stroker engine like the other sponsers carry or are they some type of all out racing engines the pros use?

While I wouldn't use those pieces either for my own build, I don't see why they wouldn't work. Have you ever heard of someone breaking an Eagle rod/crank??? Although Eagle's stuff is cheap, their parts are tough and made to handle big power.

It all depends on what you're going to be using it for. $25000 for a race engine being used primarily for racing is reasonable, IMHO. $25000 for a hobby engine being mostly driven on the street is a waste of money. There's no point in having an engine that will stand the rigors of all out road racing when you'll be driving it to work and occasionally standing on it for a mile or two.

Obviously, these prices are being set based on what the market will bear, not necessarily the cost of the build. As long as there are enough customers willing to pay the price, it will remain high and probably get higher until market forces change. Since there are lots of other quality builders that have a good product at better prices, it's not all that important.

There is ALOT to be said about the advantage that comes with experience.

Also you need to buy the proper tool for the job do not be scared by the price of race engines unless you are a racer look to what is for the street motors.

Remember you don't use a sledge hammer to tap in a penny nail.
