Pics of LS2 casting flaws
Pics of LS2 casting flaws I just recieved this block today and after inspecting it I found some bad flaws in the block right next to the sleeve.......
As you can see I am not very happy I wasnt told about this flaw and not to mention this motor is built for a pretty big shot of n20(300 shot) so I was wondering if this could affect that in any way?

If the combustion event gets that far through the head gasket than you have much bigger problems. My LS2 block has something similar to that. I haven't decked mine yet either which will end up taking the majority of out.
Had/have a flaw similar to that on my LS6 block. Its been in the car for a few years and had countless passes on it under 15-16psi.
Engine builder said it wouldn't be a problem...and it hasn't.

I appreciate the feedback I was just a little worried when I first saw it!
Keep the the feedback coming I would like to hear from some more people with these blocks with similar problems.

there are tons of those throughout the block... it just so happens that one of them got uncovered by machining.
Thats typical of any cast part.. some are better or worse than others.. but not uncommon.

but you ould have thought that in this day and age and with the exsperiance that GM have with ally that they would be able to cast a flawless block (when it comes to air boulbes!
or is that too much to ask???

Are you aware of the enviroment that casting takes place? QC like that would probably raise the cost of the vehicle to the point where no one would buy one. Remember these aren't specialty cast race pieces, these are made for passenger vehicles. The flaw in the casting is perfectly acceptable and will perforrm within the design limitations set forth by the manufacturer. Now when Joe Hot-Rodder gets a hold of it all bets are off, although I would consider the quality acceptable for a $900 aluminum block. I would get pissed if a C5R or Warhawk block had a flaw in it like that. You are paying for that extra bit of quality and strength.

Id make a note of it... make the supplier aware of it... JUST IN CASE. CYA.
If that was my block... that flaw would be the one thing Id think about everytime Id lean on the motor, no matter what anyone would tell me otherwise.
Deffinately a good way to ruin "piece of mind".

Is it really just a bubble? Take a fine, yet stiff, wire and use it to "map" the hole out. I wouln't expect it to be very big but its the only way to check unless you want to have it x-rayed
