402 oil pressure

Default 402 oil pressure

What are you guys gettin for oil pressure. Its a new oil ls6 oil pump on a 402 ls2 motor. We are getting around 25-45psi depending on what speed or if we are at idle. It is a fram oil filter with 5w-30 regular oil for motor break in. On the old ls6 setup we had 45-60 all the time, but we used 10w-30 synthetic with a k&n oil filter. So is it just the oil we are using or should there be more pressure.

Mine is around 45 psi at 950 rpm idle and 60 psi at highway speeds. This is at full operating temperature with 10w-30 non-synthetic oil. I have a stock, unported LS6 oil pump. Engine has about 2,000 miles on it. Who built your shortblock?

It is a sdpc ls2 402 shortblock. It was ordered already assembled.

45 Psi at idle 10w30 MOBIL ONE synthetic about 60 at cruise speed

Mine is 45 psi at idle and between 65 and 70 at highway speeds. I run 0w40 mobil 1 with a tsp ported ls6 oil pump.

Talking Similar

Had low 20's to 45 on mine with the fram, replaced it with a K&N Gold and now see 40 to 60. Might try changing the fram out....

I have seen several cases where the Fram filters cause a great restriction and I have even seen one come apart so use a Delco or even an STP (made by Delco).

Yeah losse the fram only hear bad stories about those filters,stick with KN.

I use a napa truck filter.... those are a good one too, hold a little more oil too. Definately lose the fram.. those things are bad news.

Mine tops out at around 40 psi. Around 20 psi at idle. Bought a ported pump but haven't installed yet. Are these blocks just built loose, or what?

You shouldn't use a fram oil filter. Use AC Delco oil filters only.

What do you guys show on your engine build sheets for oil clearance on the main, rod and cam bearings? Oil pressure is a function of the following things as best as I can tell:
1. Pump capacity at a given RPM (i.e. gallons/liters per minute at a given RPM and pressure)
2. Restrictions to flow between the pump and the oil pressure gage (restriction in the galley, through the filter, etc.)
3. Leakage rate due to
a. Unintended errors like leaving a plug out of an oil galley or a loose fitting, etc.
b. Oil clearance on bearing surfaces, valve lifter bore clearances, etc.
4. Setting of the oil pressure regulator
5. Oil viscosity (due to weight and temperature).

I'm seeing what I think are pretty high oil pressures: 65psi on load, and 50 psi idle. Probably normal tho.
I'm running 20w-50 with an oil cooler, accusump, and remote AC-Delco filter.

Where is the oil pressure regulator?
