Default Rubber PCM Seals?

I had to take off my two PCM plugs to get to the hole in the firewall to run an amp power cable and of course the rubber seals came off with em. I tried forever to get them back on and never could, i got some silicone and smeared a thin layer around the outsides and pressed them back down on there. Is is important to have those actual seals or does it really matter? Could water actually get in there to them?

Yes they are pretty important...I would rather have the seals than silicone.

Push the seals back onto the plug side, not the PCM, they fit right in perfectly.
