Default My LS7 Valvetrain Info

Well I finally got all of the parts of my valvetrain for my LS7 headed LS1 block. I decided to weigh each reciprocating part, except for the rockers, lifters, and pushrods, so I can get a good idea of what I'm working with. It's also for reference for anyone else with similar setups or plan. Here's the setup:

GM LS7 Heads...
GM LS7 Rocker Arms
Comp OE Replacement Lifters
GM LS7 Titanium Intake Valve: 76.7g
GM LS7 Intake Valve Lash Cap: 1.8g
GM LS7 Sodium Filled Exhaust Valve: 72.7g
PRC Dual Spring: 93.3g
PRC Titanium Retainer: 10.8g
GM LSx Valve Locks: 2.6g for pair, or 1.3g ea

Camshaft: 230/248, .628"/.630", XE-R/XE, 112+2 LSA, Comp Cams grind

Everything should work nicely together. The valvetrain overall is fairly light in my opinion. I'm definitely glad I went with the LS7 valves instead of stainless steel ones. I would have gone with lighter springs but I wanted a dual spring incase of a failure. Considering my cam lift and application, the PRC springs seemed like a reasonable choice.

We'll see how it holds up on the dyno in a few weeks!

Do those valves set-up at 1.850"? For some reson I thought they set-up at 1.950", in which case the PRC kit wouldn't work. May just be thinking about the ET stuff, but it's worth measuring.

Just measured the installed height(top of spring seat to bottom of retainer) and it came out to about 1.810". You almost gave me a heart attack Jason!

That camshaft duration looks very nice for the LS7 application!

I spent a few weeks working on it. I started with a 220/244 (Katech's LS7 Torquer Cam) and basically just made it bigger and tweaked it some to give a better DCR for my application. I talked to several sponsors about it and all gave me great advice. I talked with Louis at LGM, Erik at HPE, Patrick G, Jason at Katech, and mostly Richard at WCCH, who helped me finalize my cam and he even placed the order for it! It should have good low end torque and throttle response, a ferocious midrange, and a good top end. The ovelap is intake biased which will help it breathe past redline(Thanks Patrick). With all of this it should still be streetable, compared to the monster cams other guys are running in their 427's.

Thanks for your order Mike. This is a very nice grind for a street driven LS7 setup. I'm impressed at your thoroughness at arriving at this choice. This has a nice balance of driveability and yet will pull hard to 7000rpms.

I look forward to seeing your progress.
