need help identify ls engine
need help identify ls engine i bought a engine from a 05 trailblazer 2wd and i'm told its a 5.3 but how can i make sure its not a 4.8 is there a casting number on the block somewhere? on the end of the heads it has a casting number of 799. thats guys for any help. i how a vin but dont know how to decode it.

Look on the back side on the right side of the block it should tell you. 4.8,5.3,5.7,6.0...
Or take the pan off and get the crankshaft part number and call your local chevy dealer and he can tell you. The 4.8 has the shortest stroke of them all so it should be easy to tell. Good luck
