Default Multiple misfire detected.....questions

So I ran a scanner on my car at Checker the other day and I threw the code for pending multiple misfire. I am curious as to what could be the causes or what I could do to fix the problem.

My car is a 1998 TransAm...mod list:

SLP lid
descreened MAF
BBK throttle body
MSD superconductor wires with NGK TR6 plugs
3.73s with TA girdle
Pacesetter longtubes, offroad y pipe, SLP LM catback
NX 100 shot with bottle heater, FPSS, bottle opener
suspension mods and I had a shop use a hypertech a while back to calibrate my speedometer when I went to the 3.73s....

no tuning other than that but I am planning on HP tuners in the near future....

Any ideas or suggestions? thanks

I have the sheet with the actual code numbers and **** but its in my car and I am at school so I will post it up as soon as I can.

start with the basics...check the plugs (also gap), and wires. thats probably the problem.

you could also swap injectors and coil packs with another 'good' cylinder to see if the problem moves.

if all that checks out, do a compression test.

just kind an off question...how many miles will a set of plugs usually last

I also just noticed that I put this in the LS2 and not the LS1 forum....a mod can move it if necessary.

Hi
I had the same codes after putting MSD wires and coils on my car. The plugs and wires is where I would start. After that look at the coils.

I've had a couple cars throw a multiple misfire code and it was due to a lagging fuel pump. Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see if it's in spec.

Just had the same problem on a diff GM vehicle. 2.4L grand am but same problem you are describing. I actually start to chase the coils and plugs at first. Ended up being the fuel injector was unplugged on one cylinder. Sounds weird but what happened was the connector itself has a little piece on it that must have cracked and caused the injector plug to come off slightly. I pushed it further into the injector and it was fine. It was also partially caused by the terminals not having enough tension also. As you drove the vehicle the vibration from the engine would cause the plug to wiggle out of the injector. Not completely out but enough that the terminals would not make contact until you pushed the connector farther into the injector.First time I had ever seen something like that and I ended up having to go to the dealer and get a new connector and terminals.
