Spun Bearing
After Blowing my MAF apart and having the dipstick blow out on me twice, I think I finally hurt her . While playing on the streets last night I heard a subtle pop under the hood and noticed smoke. At first I thought nothing of it, because I thought to myself, "oh well guess I'll pull over and place the dipstick back into the motor
". But after taking her out of gear the motor shut off, I restarted it while rolling and pulled off the road.
After which I opened the hood and saw the usual burning oil splashed upon the headers. Upon inspecting the the bay for loose hoses and loose clamps I noticed a bit of smoke radiating from the dipstick's insertion point. Immediately I checked the oil for metal shavings and found none(why I did that? I have no idea).
I started her up and heard a wretched taping sound, I cut off the motor and placed 1 quart of oil in her and puttered her on home (about 1200 meters), and once again checked the oil for metal shavings, still no shavings thank god.
The sound seems to be a constant tapping noise coming from the motor's internals. It gets louder during slight revs but the rate noise is constant. It doesn't get louder as the engine warms up BTW.
The following afternoon I called a friend and he indicated it MIGHT be
a spun bearing. In fact he almost guarantees it might be a spun bearing.
Would $1500 be enough to repair the Motor if I plan on pulling it and rebuilding it myself? And how could I prevent this in the future?
