I have the iron block version of the 402, and I have absolutely no problems with over heating. In fact, this engine runs cooler than my stock block did.

None of the blocks should have cooling problems.

Cubic inches have nothing to do with cooling or overheating unless its a 598ci big block Chevy.

Your stock radiator and fans are way more than enough to cool any stroker engine. My 436 stays cool as a cucumber with the stock stuff, A/C blasting in south Florida hot traffic.

You have a problem with your cooling system. I did once and fixed it and it took care of my heating issue. It had nothing to do with the engine.

I'm surprised that so many of you guys are running stock cooling systems with your stroker engines. Many Corvette guys end up going with Ron Davis or similar radiators/oil coolers when going with the big cube setups.

Then again, those 'Vettes are more likely see more time at a road course than an F-Body would.

Well, an engine will certainly get hotter on a road course than during daily driving.

If they're getting bigger radiators and fans for a daily driver Vette, either F-Body's have much better cooling systems than Vettes...OR, they're just getting suckered into buying things they don't need. Which happens alot.

I've never run a road course, but I have romped hard-core on my car for 20 minutes on a 90 degree day and it stays nice and cool.

It doesn't take long at all for oil temps to go 290+ on a road course in a Vette. Yay oil coolers!

Also, if you run really high static compression (12.1:1 or more) in a 400+cid stroker, you might want to look at a bigger/more efficient radiator. Higher cylinder pressures = more heat, and the best way to keep those engines alive on pump gas is by controlling heat-induced detonation.

Yes the oil temp can get up to 290-300 on a road course but the water temp stays in the 230 range and that is fine for the normal 20 minute sessions.

My 490 rwhp 402 runs about the same temperature as my restricted TB CMC 230 rwhp LT1 motor ran on track.

So no need to fix what isn't broken.

I'll probably run an oil cooler on mine aswell early this coming year.
