Default Lets talk about the cam position sensor on the LS2

I've heard that there could be two designs for the crank position sensor. I know on the LS2 that they are located in the front cover, I assume they use the markings on the crank sprocket as a pickup. Anyone know if there are two different designs, any pics would be helpful.

Your title refers to the camshaft position sensor, so I assume that's what you are referring to. The crankshaft position sensor is in the same location as the Gen III.

There are definitely 2 different cam sensor designs; each is a different color. The Gen IV CMP picks up the signal from a raised bar on the the camshaft sprocket. Which coincidently there are also two different designs.

The color of the crank pos sensor is usually a good give away. 24x are usually black, grey being 58x. For cam gear, you want a 1x wheel w/ls1 PCM. If the engine achieved sync and started, you have the correct sensor. That's the critical one. Cam sensor can be unplugged, or miswired and it'll still achieve sync and fire, but will probably take slightly longer for the PCM to figure out which stroke it's on via map feedback.
