Default GMPP Camaro & GTO

Hope this isn't a repost.
Pick up Febs GMHTP magazine. Page 12.
GMPP drops an LS7, Cooks and clutch in '99Z and gets it to run 11.60. There is alot more to the article but that is the bottom line.
Great stuff. I was waiting to see this if this sort of transplant would work.
Then turn to page 20 for sneak peak at an LS7 GTO GMPP is testing. Great mag this month.

Yeah the GTO is in my Pontiac Enthusiast.

It's funny because the manager who showed them the car is a chick. She is in charge of marketing GM Performance Parts. She got in, did some burnouts and let them take a bunch of pictures. She got out and said "all in a day's work".

an LS7 Goat...
The hardest part is the timing wheel change and modifications to the car for the dry sump... well if its for an 05 or 06 that comes with the LS2.

I'm waiting for a 3.75" crank to build a 389 L92... anyone make one? Eagle, Callies, or Lunati???

I was looking into that and nobody makes one I wanted to take a LS7 block and a 3.75" crank to make a modern "long rod" 400ci many laughed at me I didn't care. it seems like the only option and I'm not sure if it is available yet is a new line of cranks that can be custom ground by...... damn I can't remember if it was Callies or Scat but it was one of those two the guy eluded to it (the crank) costing in the area of 2K. I think I'm just gonna do an Eagle LS2/3.9" combo. that comes to 398ci I'll call it 400ci and save a couple two/three grand.

It woulda been nice to get the bigger bore (LS7) to unshroud the valves and/or get some more options with the heads.

I read the article and from what I read they didn't actually run 11.60s, it appears they ran a best of 12.0 @ 115 on slicks, which I didn't find to be very impressive. They said they thought it could go 11.60s.

I wonder what the problem was - maybe it wasn't tuned or there was a problem with TM? That LS7 should be pushing close to 500 rwhp with the Kooks headers. I have a friend who went 11.8 @ 116 in a full weight F-body with ~370ish rwhp. I'd think a 500 rwhp F-body could at least go low 11s and trap 125ish.

heck I have been 11.50s with a h/c motor. That dynoed 380 whp. Since then have been 7.10 1/8 mile with same combo just cooler air, on m/t 275-50 DRs. Fully loaded 02 ss 3700 lbs. So why spend all the money to go slower.

First the car was completed the day it was to leave for the Hot Rod Power tour. As most projects go there wasn't any time to sort out any minor problems.
The GMPP team drove both cars to Brandon Florida then the entire length of the Power Tour. The clutch in the car was smoked from some spirited driving.

Once the car was back the clutch was replaced. Unfortunatly there was no time to sort out the combination. There were air gap/clutch travel issues that didn't allow the participants to shift as well as they should have. There were attempts to solve the problems but by that time the clutch was damaged.

Trust me, the car makes the power. But as in any combination it requires a little fine tuning. Somthing that there wasn't any time with this deal.

I wish I could play with the car for a few days.

I'm sure that car has low 11's in it after some fine tuning. Talk about a sleeper on the street!
