GMPP Camaro & GTO
Pick up Febs GMHTP magazine. Page 12.
GMPP drops an LS7, Cooks and clutch in '99Z and gets it to run 11.60. There is alot more to the article but that is the bottom line.
Great stuff. I was waiting to see this if this sort of transplant would work.
Then turn to page 20 for sneak peak at an LS7 GTO GMPP is testing. Great mag this month.

It's funny because the manager who showed them the car is a chick. She is in charge of marketing GM Performance Parts. She got in, did some burnouts and let them take a bunch of pictures. She got out and said "all in a day's work".
The hardest part is the timing wheel change and modifications to the car for the dry sump... well if its for an 05 or 06 that comes with the LS2.
I'm waiting for a 3.75" crank to build a 389 L92... anyone make one? Eagle, Callies, or Lunati???
It woulda been nice to get the bigger bore (LS7) to unshroud the valves and/or get some more options with the heads.
I wonder what the problem was - maybe it wasn't tuned or there was a problem with TM? That LS7 should be pushing close to 500 rwhp with the Kooks headers. I have a friend who went 11.8 @ 116 in a full weight F-body with ~370ish rwhp. I'd think a 500 rwhp F-body could at least go low 11s and trap 125ish.

The GMPP team drove both cars to Brandon Florida then the entire length of the Power Tour. The clutch in the car was smoked from some spirited driving.
Once the car was back the clutch was replaced. Unfortunatly there was no time to sort out the combination. There were air gap/clutch travel issues that didn't allow the participants to shift as well as they should have. There were attempts to solve the problems but by that time the clutch was damaged.
Trust me, the car makes the power. But as in any combination it requires a little fine tuning. Somthing that there wasn't any time with this deal.
I wish I could play with the car for a few days.
