Default LS1 block / LS7 topend PCV question.

Whats the best way to handle the PCV system if I am using a sleeved LS1 block and LS7 heads/intake and TB. I want to use the GMPP valve covers that have no PCV fittings. I will also want to incorporate a catch can in the system. Thanks for any help.

I would run a crankcase vacuum system.

I assume this would be done through the valley cover, but where would you tie back into the system?

I would actually drill and tap 2 holes, one in the front of each valve cover, install a couple screw in nipples, and violla! I have actually modified the factory electric smog pump off of a Camaro and used it as a crankcase evacuation pump. I never measured the vacuum at WOT but at idle the smog pump would pull 2-3" vac. in the crankcase. The smog pump worked good ( in my opinion) due to it's volume, those things move alot of air, I think it kept up pretty good with crankcase windage, but I have no hard data to prove it...sorry.

Is a PCV or crankcase evac. sys. necessary with a true dry sump, ARE, or similar?

Bob, this is not a dry sump like a true LS7 engine. He's running LS7 heads on an older block that's been re-sleeved for larger pistons. This is a wet sump engine with more displacement and new heads and intake.

RedC5ragtop,
Since you're doing this much to the engine anyway, why not buy an LS6 valley cover, put in a PVC valve and run it to the intake? Incorporate a catch can between the PVC valve and the intake if you want.

Steve,

After doing some research, I think that is the most practical solution.
