Does cam size affect exaust smell?

Default Does cam size affect exaust smell?

I have a Texas Giant cam in my 402 and every time I pull up to a stop sign the exaust fumes are overwhelming. I am not running cats but that hasn't changed from the last setup. The fumes are noticably worse than with my last h/c setup on my 346.

In "general" the amount of overlap effects/causes that gas smell.. No cats is not helping either...

u got that right. at least u can find exhaust leaks uber quickly..

Depending on the tune, it could be inaccurately calculating idle fueling. Due to the overlap in the cam, fresh air is most likely making it's way into the exhaust. If the car is running in closed-loop, the fresh air is interpreted as a lean condition and more fuel is thought to be required (as seen by either a WBO2 or a NBO2). So, the car will have to run falsely rich to keep the oxygen sensors happy.

If you had an semi open-loop tune with a custom operating system, you could command a 15.5:1~16:1 AFR at idle to bring fueling back to where it should ideally be.

Make sense?

Actually you dont need a custom OS. Just need to know how to make em idle in open loop. It can be done on OBD1 cars as well.
