inherent disadvantages in a 454 LS2?

Default inherent disadvantages in a 454 LS2?

When comparing a 416" SCPP LS2 and Texas Speed's 454" short block are there some disadvantages in the larger motor? Rod ratio? piston speed? ring package issues? Other then the cost is there a reason not to go with the larger motor? If they were the same price would people still buy the 416?

Rod ratio is likley close to be the same seeings how they use the LSX iron block to achieve the 454" cubes. Piston speeds and ring packs should all be normal. In the end, get as many cubes as you can. Alot of people just don't want to use the iron block. If your talking about a true LS2 454 like I have, then that's a diffrent story. Alot of attention has to be paid to the piston design with a stroke as long as I'm running. If built right it can last a long time. In the end, people will still buy the 416 due to price.

That's one reason I like the Texas Speed 454 is it is a better block to start with.

If better ='s heavier, then your correct. Other than that, a correctly sleeved aluminum block is just fine.

I think he may have been trying to say more flexible. Even at 454" the LSX block has alot left in it.
