Cam Experts Need help!!!
LSX block
-LS7 heads (stock intake side, but the exhaust has been reworked by WCCH)
-Ported LS7 manifold (jeremy Framoto)
-4.200" bore
-4.125" stroke
-6.125" rods
-Custom CP pistons with a reverse dome of the ls7 combustion chamber
-SCR of roughly 11.2:1
I have been hearing from some knowledgable and experienced people (with the ls7 heads) that the ls7 heads do not like huge cams. I have also been told that a smaller cam would suite my truck better because of 5,300lb wieght it has. Anybodys opinion with experience with the ls7's heads would be greatly appreciated.
Lets see what we have to work with
457 lsx, 4l80e trans, 4.10 gears, and a 3000 stall.
The Goal: To move 5300lbs
Are you using the LS7 intake or are you still going sheet metal? That will have a huge effect on the cam.

in a pickup truck with weighing 5300 lbs, i would keep the duration around mid 230 on the intake to the low 240's. to give you a example i have seen 427 with stock ls7 heads, and a stock ls7 intake, ran a comp xer 228-236 on 112+4 make 540 rwhp and 540 rwtq, the torque curve was very wide, and had power every where. the powerband carried clear to 6800 rpm running this relatively small cam. some of the rules we apply on camshaft design on the ls1 motors, dont all the time apply to the ls7 heads and intake setups.
