What is the oil capacity??

What is the oil capacity?? LS7 block wet sump with K & N Hp-2006 oil filter (larger one) 98 LS1 oil pan. The stick tells me it wants like 7-7.5 qts of oil. Which isn't right, so I changed the oil again today, filled the filter to the top with oil. It took about .5 qt and I dumped another 6qts in the crankcase. The oil level was between the "add" and the bottom of the cross hatched gauge. Showing a little over a qt low on oil. I then started the car let it warm backup and let is sit for about 10 minutes and the oil level is at the bottom of the stick where the stick starts to curve.
This has been driving me insane for a while now and I am not sure if oil is sitting somewhere in the L92 heads or what the deal is. But I have never seen this before and it just scares me when I check my oil, I really do not know how full it is. I was dealing with an oil burning issue which seems to have gotten better but it is hard to tell with the oil level fluctuating like is has. Anyone else having this problem? And what is the correct amount of oil with the K & N filter. The owners manual says 5.5 and I am adding 1 qt more to that with the K & N filter.

Hey there Busa!I have virtually the same wet sump setup as you and run the tall GM PF61 filter.I run 6.5 quarts and according to the stick it's right on the nose.LS7 block with 2001 LS1 dipstick.Hope this helps?!

I wonder if my stick is bent or something. It goes in fine. I will just have to make a new mark on the end of the stick and see what happens. Oil pressure is perfect at 6.5 qts even though the stick shows almost 2 qts low.
What is really messed up is the stick was showing higher than it is now before I changed the oil yesterday and I only measured 6.0 qts came out. So I was actually .5 qts low. But now with 6.5 the stick shows less than it did yesterday with 6 qts in it. Explain that?
