Default few ?s on ls2 clearancing and mpg

Just picked up my new ls2 block from michigan. It sure is pretty. Now its on to pick a crank. What is the biggest crank that one can put in these blocks without clearancing? I searched the forums but came up with conflicting reports. I'm really looking hard at a mild na 402.

On a different note, since this motor will be daily driven, I'd like to see what others are getting as far as gas mileage on the 402's and 413s.

Thanks for any input since this is still all new to me.

depending on what rods you go with and what rod bolts are used really. I have seen some 4 inch stroke setups go together that didn't require any block clearancing, but on some others the block had to be clearanced alot (like my motor)

Clearancing the block isn't a big deal, you just have to be careful when you do it, only remove what is nessassary.

ah well if it helps I got a deal on rods. They are the .927 rod pin and 6.125 rod length.

depends on what brand of rods, and what are in them for bolts. I have a set of billet eagle rods in my motor with oversized L19 rod bolts, so the head of the bolt is a good bit bigger, which causes the block to need more clearancing.

what about mpg? Its not a big deal, but I just want to look at my options. I usually work with sbc 350's and I know the 383 on up are gas hogs. I was just wondering if all the great fuel economy that the ls series makes is negated when one ups the displacement. Of course its going to go down but how much are we talking? As said before I'd be going with a pretty mild cam that liked down low rpms.

you probably could get it to about 20+ mpg on teh highway, aroudn town will depend too much on driving habits and gearing.

Don't ask me that, I run a 5000+ converter and a th400 with 4.10 rear gears, my mpg is not the norm (about 9 mph LOL)

Thanks if its any help this will be going through a t56 (.5 ratio 6th) and a 3.9 gears. Thats the reason for the mild cam and probably smaller heads (eventually go to probably a AFR 205 setup when funds allow). This project is going into my 69 camaro when its all said and done so it will weigh less than your average fourth gen.

Before I started restoring it, the car weighed around 3300 with an all iron engine and pg tranny. I'm thinking it will be a little lighter than that so that should help mpg as well.
