Default Oil Pumps

Ok since I am rebuilding my motor complete I am going to put a new oil pump in since the one I have has 60k miles on it.

So I have a few questions on which is a good pump and is going to hold the abuse we throw at these things racing and everything. My setup is 408 single or twin turbo kit as thats still in the air. But 1000-1200rwhp is what I am building the car for.


GM LS6 Oil Pump $99.99
Melling Performance LS1/LS2 Oil Pump $139.99
SLP Heavy Duty Oil Pump $166.81

question is for us LS7 people who retain the GM dry sump system, who is going to come up for something for us? MTI has does a ported version in their 454 LS7 but they won't sell it w/o the motor...I figure the production numbers on the LS7 motor are so small that SLP won't jump on board either. Thoughts?????

I think the stock GM oil pumps are superior parts. Have you ever seen one disassembled? - They're beautiful.

I have not, but I'm about to prior to bolting up the front cover n my motor. These guys have an interesting approach to LS oil pumps, they can repeat the same service on a LS7 pump for $115more than I'd pay for a stock unit from Elway Chevy here in Colorado. Its worth a look see..

Careful, some of the DOD high volume GM pumps will actually suck the pan to a low level. That Ebay pump may have stared as one of those?
Unless there are other issues the LS2-3 pump will supply the right volume/pressure even with large oil cooler.

The stock LS7 seems to have a high cold oil pressure that drops ~30 lbs when hot. When run as wet sump with LS2 pump they run LS "normal" pressure except when hot when it drops to ~30lbs when hot and recovers when cooler.

meliing #10296 oil pump, and install blue spring in it. by far the best ls pump out right now, with superior oil volume and pressure control.

in your opinion you think the LS2-3 oil pump would be better than the Melling Oil Pump??

have anyone used the low flow push rods with the melling pump to help keep the sump full?
