Yep, a Fast 90/90 will make it easier, and of course, QUALITY ported LS6 heads, not simply the cheapest you can find.

FWIW, I am doing the same thing. Since I blew up my LS1 engine last August, I have just recently purchased an LS2 402 stroker from TSP. To reduce the cost to get the car back on the road I am going to re-use the top end: PP LS6 ported heads, LS6 intake, and ported factory TB. I think that with the LS6 intake I might make 475 RWHp.

Later, I hope to upgrade the FAST 90 intake, 90mm TB, and MAF. And if I get really crazy go with L92 heads and L76 intake. With this combo, I hope to make 500 RWHp.

I think people underestimate LS6 heads a lot. Properly ported LS6 heads will outperform many aftermarket castings.

Doc99 you should have no trouble making 475, I did 473/465 on a stingy dyno on a hot day, with a 9" rear, 19 lb Dennys Nitrous DS and Heavy as hell MT DR's. This also was with a LS6 intake and 1 3/4 headers.

I has been done with stock size LS6 valves on a much smaller LS engine than a 402. However, it was not a street engine, and it was quite costly. The heads were a work of art and responsible for much of the power. Stock, unported intake by the way and thru race mufflers. The cam was smaller than you'd imagine.

So yes, it can be done. Choose your engine builder VERY carefully.

With the right combination it is very easy to do. We consistantly build 540+rwhp 427cid motors that are using our LS6 ported heads. As mentioned above, a properly ported LS6 head will outperform many aftermarket castings.

Thanks! Make that 'Geritol' Pappy Van Winkle 20 yr. old bourbon.

Burt Reynolds and I are often mistaken for brothers......NOT!

Here's the explanation, FWIW.
