Thanks guys.
That's what you really need to find out. If you are exempt from emmisions testing you can do a lot more with it. You can mill the heads / flycut for better compression / quench and run a healthier cam. You'll make a lot more power that way that than randomly picking parts.

My dad recently gave me the task of build building a list for a LSx he going to put in his El Camino. (less than $3500) He seen a stroker Gen II SBC that someone's selling for 3500 in mind if he doesn't like the setup. He wants it to be tame enough for DD and still make power.

I have decided it would be cheaper to go with a 6.0L iron block. Hell i might even copy the setup for my SS.

Lemme know what you guys think.

Stock LQ4 bottom end (of course freshed up)
L76 intake assembly (sell the Fly-by wire 90mm for a cabled 90mm)
GM L92 heads w/ PRC Dual springs and Ti retainers
Torquer 2 or small 230's cam
TNT F1 125 shot (just for ***** and giggles)
LT's and Duals out the back

He will be going with the following either way:
4L65E with a 3500 stall
Moser 12-bolt w/ 3.42's

I think it should make decent power all around power and be a decent DD. If he likes, it he wants to go with a ~400 LS2 later on.

532hp/514tq on 345/30/18 dr's and 28 degrees of timing in my C5. Oh its 11.9:1 static compression with a SD/OL tune for 91 and gets 24mpg

i didn't say it couldn't be done - but you are comparing 416 cid to 370 cid. also, i'm guessing you are running through a 6 spd with what..315 gears or something?

Yes, 6spd and 3.42's. Larger displacment is just one factor of the equation though.

LS2 Block 402ci 12.1comp
forged rods,crank,pistons
ported l92 heads
l76 intake 90mm
85mm massair
248/254 615/605 112lob comp custom ground
1 7/8 kooks offroads b&b catback.
the clutch was gone(it would not hold) so we did not finist the tune(will finish this spring with a new clutch.
stingy mustang dyno. first pull 18deg timing 450hp 425tq
2nd pull 24deg timing 489hp 450tq this was all the clutch would not hold.
my tuner thinks 520-530hp 460-470tq n/a is where I should end up.
the car drives around town real nice.
I have a T.N.T wet kit and the 150 shot will be bumped to a duel 150shot for a 300total w/a progress-controller....just to make the new super charged z06 owner cry his 100k ride just got smoked.....up to about 150-160mph of course,no 200mph top out for me.

Crazy cams for sure. I am going with the cam SDPC designed for L92 heads in mine.
http://www.sdparts.com/product/CRA14...850590114.aspx
I have stage II L92 heads all Manley stuff & Diamonds new pistons with L92 Valve reliefs.
I will being doing motor & also 2 stage nitrous run's. I will settle for this nice torque cam with a mean idle but still have street manners. 2800 to 3000 stall I have will like it also.
Low 11's is enough for my DD. I was running 12.12 @ 112.93 mph on Nitto's with bolt-on's & nitrous. So low 11's with full tube headers, L92 heads, new cam, MT- 305-45-18" DR's & new Diamond forged pistons should be easy. Before you say slow this is a 4400 lbs Trailblazer SS SUV with a LS2. Real budget build also but done right with all ARP bolts & good parts.

Here's a lot of info on a mild build. Current numbers 510-470. More coming as long as it doesn't hurt drivability.

Good looking combo, WKMCD. I like the camshaft. Seems that a sensible sized cam does a lot better on these big cubes than we'd think. I know my cam does great compared to the HUGE 248/258 that I had. Sure it would be great for a single plane, but not on our composite EFI intakes.

It is going in my 93 Z28 (pic on my website www.loughengines.com). I have a th-350 with an 8" 4800 stall, 3.73 gear and 275/60 drag radials. The car has gone 9.65 with a 396 LT1 with AFR heads on 175 hp spray with the stock intake manifold. I plan on picking up about 7 or 8 tenths with the new engine.
This thing is gonna be a beast! BTW folks this car is going on Pinks All Out!

Mike, thanks again for answering my questions. I'll be getting with you about the SGI 4.00" Crank, SGI SD I Beam Rods, and probably the Probe pistons.

Anytime! I am going to try to drop the engine into the car tomorrow so maybe if I am lucky we will be bragging about some time slips next weekend. IF I am lucky.

-Cam (I'm still figuring out the specs)
-L92 Intake manifold with Holley Cable operated throttle body
-Stainless Works Headers with true dual exhaust

Rear End

402ci
diamond flat tops
ported l92's
stock l76
cam custom 248/254 112lob
42 injectors
11.6.1 compression
m6,12 bolt w/4.11's
kooks 1 7/8,off roads,B&B catback
517hp 466tq peaked at 6,300rpm's held strong and never really fell off to about 6,800rpm's
I don't think the l76 intake is that bad,I just think people have not found out how to set up the cam for valve timing yet.

OP is too reasonable. So its going to be a real budget build. BUT, my problem would be this one after: I should have done this and that instead of this and that. Take your time while youre there and make it big in one shot. Not like me. I blew up my original engine, and I bought a used forged engine. Even it was cheap, I think everyday about going to 408 LQ9 with L92...good luck whatsovever
..just my .02
