It is recommended that you remove the heads, but i think you can do the "ROD" method on them too. If you dont know about the rod method, it would be best if you just removed the heads.
And as far as the head gaskets, I wouldn't re-use them. they aren't that pricey anyways.

No, you do not have to pull the heads. The best thing to do is either the rod method like fastvet suggested or use some rubber hose that fits the holes and go that route. Either way will ensure that you don't here the dreaded sound of a lifter hitting your oil pan!!!! Good luck. You can always just spin the cam over, hold your breath, and swap the cam. I know that "60% of the time, it works everytime"!!!
