What changes to plan for dropping LS7 block in LS6 based car

Default What changes to plan for dropping LS7 block in LS6 based car

I'm dropping an LS7 based engine in my CTS-V. The internals are no problem because I'm going with an earlier 24X reluctor and wet sump system. I'm basically concerned about relocation of knock sensors, front accessory dress, timing chain, different motor mounts, etc. Has anyone else done this and is there some sort of guide available for potential gotchas?

Knock sensors - LS6 in the side of the block will be fine. Tap M8 hole to M10.
Front drive - All your CTS-V will work. If it is an LS6 CTS-V you will need slight clearancing of the block for the AC bracket
Timing chain - USE LS7 or C5R
Motor mounts - Use CTS-V

Make sure you change the pilot bearing to CTS-V.

What front cover/upper cam gear would he use?

LS2 front cover
05 LS2 cam sprocket


If you're using the LS7 crank you'll have to figure out the damper situation.
