Default options for broken cam dowel pin

Was in the process of adjusting the timing with a Comp Cams adjustable timing set and after I tightened (not fully torqued) my cam bolts I noticed the hex adapter bushing could still rotate. I pulled off the cam gear and part of the dowel was sitting down on the crank sprocket and the remaining portion was still in the camshaft.

I assume I could send the cam back for repair.
What are some other options?
Is it possible to drill out the remaining portion and press in a new pin?
Suggestions would be appreciated.

fwiw there was no load on the cam other than one pushrod with a dial indicator on the end and a set of lifters, no rocker arms installed

I am really beginning to wonder about Comp lately. You at least got the dowel pin with the cam, but that's another story. I would remove the cam. Not sure how well it can be drilled. I know it is case hardened but it is also a press fit. Is any of it sticking out? You don't want to over drill the diameter because you will lose the tolerance required to press in a new one. If some is sticking out you may be able to drill it out to the point where the walls are thin then work it out.

thanks for the response.

There is no part of the dowel sticking out of the cam. The remaining portion is below the surface of the cam.

I will most likely call the place where I purchased the cam. I would like to avoid a 3-4 week delay.

I had read where one individual did not use a dowel, but I don't recall if he mentioned if it was a stock cam gear or not. With the slotted holes on my adjustable cam gear I am concerned it may slip sometime in the future. I could put the old gear back on but the timing was off with that one, or perhaps it was due to a very loose chain.
