Oh, even cheaper than that. $48-49K near me. Some 06's will be very affordable in another year, around $43-46K.

Very true. There are some good buys out there, depending on what you are looking for. You are seeing the heavy first few years of depreciation. They will begin to slow down soon. Just as the C5Z's did. There are always some fairly cheap Z's out there. I checked out quite a few. 99% of the cheap ones have been ridden hard, and are beaten up. I wanted a super clean DSOM or AO. That was a hard combo to find. So with the prices of new ones, I went to a new '08. I also have a hard time buying used performance vehicles(at that price anyway). That's just me being picky.

The biggest problem is the 08 LS3's in base C6's putting up wonderful times and numbers with few mods. The existing Z06's on lots around here are not selling at all. Just like real estate, its a buyers market. There are currently some new 07's sitting at dealers still when I was looking for a used C6 a few weeks ago. I saw $8-9K off the stickers too but Im waiting for the floor to drop in the next year or so on 06's before I pick one up. Every C6Z is gonna be abused to an extent, no doubt. Damn fine cars though, but with LS3's making 500rwhp with cam and boltons its tough to not take notice.

GM's LS3 is a bad *** motor! Not doubt. But if the Z's drop in price, then so will the LS3 vette's. Which will be the obvious choice for most buyers if they are so easy to mod and get great power. After test driving both LS3's and Z's, there was just no comparison in the two for me. The obvious winner was the Z for me. Don't forget, very similar bolt ons can go on the Z too. Although, the price of the Z is more, than the LS3.

Amen.
I cant wait to grab an 06 C6Z and save all the extra money for 700+rwhp. I hope they hold up to N20.

On one trip I averaged 29.1mpg on the way home from running 10.50's all night on drag radials. The night I ran 10.48 I got ~25mpg on the way home, but that had something to do with playing with a Viper.

why are the C6 Z06's depreciating so much already? What improvements did the 2008 C6 Z06 have over the previous 06-07s?

Because of a couple of things..supply has exceeded demand...GM will always over produce what it builds...and the nations economy is in the crapper..

They are depreciating less on a percentage basis than other GM products. My car has depriciated about 15% off MSRP in 3 years. Not bad for an american car. Its when you factor in the premiums that some people were paying does the depriciation percentage increase.

First off, you had to have bought it/them right in the first place. We purchased an 08 for less than alot of used 07s and 08s were going for. If you pay less, then the initial depreciation is going to be less.
Second, with the economy the way it is, combined with the release of the ZR1, theres a bunch of Z06s sitting on lots right now, with the dealers not being able to sell them. Give it a few more months, and then head out and start making your deals!!!
As for the bennies of the Z06 over the LS3, the entire car is reason enough to go with the Z. The wide body, brakes, tranny, etc. Not to mention the 600 fwhp capability with a very mild cam and headers and tune.

Is the C6 Z06 still going to be in production after the ZR1 is released? I heard the 08 C6 Z06's have a updated/stronger transmission?

woah! i was looking at used ones and i was going to come on here and comment. but i see other people noticed it too. i WAS thinking about a house after i sold the camaro. but months without driving has really gotten to me. and i want a z. and now i see even the new ones are going for UNDER sticker and whatnot i might try to get qualified for one of those. that would be so sick. but since that is the way it is it makes me want to throw an offer of 5k less on one of the 48-50k ones. oh and i know it would be blasphemy but i was thinking about a gt500. they are only 40k used with like 7k on em, and since they are from private sellers you could get a couple more off im sure. but i think i would rather pay 10k more and get a z06. the economy is DEFINATLY a buyers market.

If someone buys me a z06, I'll promise not to complain about the fuel price.

If you are interested in Z's, now is a great time!!! That's why we took advantage of it. I test drove a gt500. After owning a 04 Cobra, I was very interested. The new gt500 is fun and fast, but it feels like a brick! They just made that car WAY TOO HEAVY!!! Go test drive a new Z and a gt500, you will see what I am talking about. There is no comparison between the two!

Back to a couple of other comments - it's not a small block and it's not a big block. It's an LS, completely different animal than either of the others.
