I don't care much about the hp. 250 is enough for me in a truck. I'm fascinated by the torque. I've always been fond of the TBI 350 for power delivery and they had pathetic power numbers.

These new 5.3 engines are making great power curves and mileage rivaling ford's v6 turbo. I'm thinking one of these engines with a 4l80e, tuned, and tq management adjusted would be fantastic. Need to tow a load? Run e85!

GM has done their homework with the new generation of small blocks. If you just compare the heads from gen IV to gen V you'll see where the power comes from. There is very little carry over from gen IV.

Watch the vid.
Note how the block is Balanced and Blue Printed via CNC systems.
Note how the heads crank and other parts are CNC'd and Quality Control is put into every part of the build.
Note that they build the Gen V motors (v6 and v8's at that plant the same way).
*** loads of attention to detail.

Now all they need to do is port the heads and use a bigger stick at the factory and we could see a really interesting GM line-up.

Agreed -- if only -- that would make that one heck of an engine -- would be cool if it fit in the 5th Gen...

Torque to yield is for humans. Factory engines use robots to tighten everything...aka...same way every time.

They have these magical electric servo driven drivers that measure torque as they are driving the bolts down. They have ability to follow a torque map designed by engineering to ensure consistantly perfect torque specs of like .01-.001 ft lbs. They can even sense if a bolt hole is slightly oversized. If there is any significant deviation during torquing the operator is alerted. They are a really awesome system.

A year ago I heard they were doing something with the rings that yielded more efficiency but sacrificing reliability. Well, a month ago my friend's '14 5.3 has compression issues at 50,000. Getting warrantied now......

I've had a hard time getting some good info on these ecotec engines. GM doesn't offer a crate 5.3 that I've seen.
