Default 2014 L83 Prep

Received a 2014 L83 donor for my project. This engine was supposedly removed from a 2014 Silverado with 68k miles that received an L86 upgrade. However, for what ever reason, all of the accessories were removed from the front of the engine as was the oil pan.I believe I have all of the accessories, just missing the mounting bolts, wth. The engine was sitting on a creeper like pallet.

I started to dis-assemble it yesterday. When I removed the crank balancer bolt, there was a bit of oil that came out from the end of the crank. Does this seem normal? My plans are to remove the piston/rod assemblies and the crank and clean the inside of the block to ensure that its clean. The original hone marks can still be seen in the cylinders. Since it's an aluminum block, any suggestion as to the best way to do this?

This engine will be getting an AFM/DOD delete kit and a BTR stage 2 truck cam. Followed with a tune.

Thanks in advance.

Do you have any reason to think the engine isn't in running shape? at 68K miles, I don't know if I would tear the bottom end all apart, especially if the bores look as good as you say they do.

After you do the DOD delete, I'd put new seals on the front and rear covers and let it rip.

I guess for the simple fact that it didn't have an oil pan on it for some time and was sitting on a creeper would be why I would try to clean it up?

I'll get a bright light and see how it looks and go from there.

Is there a particular sealant to use for these newer engines? Seems that there is.

Thanks for your help.

if it "spins it wins" is kind of the junkyard swap motto I've heard a few times, and at such a low mileage, if the bores look good, and there's no real obvious signs of rotating issues, I would leave it alone. Of course without an oil pan, if the engine was sitting in the correct orientation, maybe a general cleanup would be in order, does it look really dirty/sludgy or anything?

The LT engines use RTV for the oil pan gasket, there is no "gasket kit" per se. here's a good video from Lucky Costa on installing an oil pan on a LT.

Well, here's several pics to look at.

Original hone marks.

Looks on par for that low of milage, it definitely got some good oil changes. LT's got the piston squirters too, I always forget about that.

Looks like just the standard oil residue, no signs of sludge or super duper coked on oil. If that was mine I would make sure it spins free (take out the spark plugs) and easily and move on to the rest of the build.

@ theunderlord No heads on it at this time. Spins freely with the harmonic balancer, but not too freely. Cleaning the heads and installing the BTR valve springs tonight, and maybe the cam.

Thanks for your help.
