Default Unknown spring?

Re-assembling my L83, and found this on the floor. Could it be from the HPFP?

Anyone have an idea where this spring came from?

Can you give us a dimension on that spring?

I didn't think the HPFP spring could come off the pump.

0.720 tall x 0.825 diameter x 0.118 spring wire diameter
flat ground both ends.

It looks like it came off the HPFP to me. Yes, they come off. You have to remove it when you are setting the clearance for the larger fuel pump lobe. A lash cap is required and to set the clearance correctly, theis spring has to be removed temporarily.

Thought I saw it on the end of the HPFP, but wasn't sure. Just couldn't place anywhere else it could have come from.

Thanks.

@TURBO BUICK why is it garbage? After looking at the HPFP, I don't see how that little spring actually came off of the big spring.

It is garbage because it appears to be very rusted, pitted and has tons of corrosion.

It may be, however, I still don't know how it fits into the HPFP setup.

That spring is not from the HPFP.. your pic above of the HPFP is 'spring complete'

I can't tell you what that loose spring is though. If it's from an internal portion of the engine, then I wouldn't use it again per what has been iterated here... but it's also possible it's not from the internal of the engine since I'd expect it to be oil coated enough to prevent the pitting/rusting (unless it's been cleaned and then left to sit for notable amount of time). Perhaps it's from some external part, or depending on where you got your motor, maybe it's not even part of the actual engine and just some random spring that found it's way to your garage floor (shrug).
