Can a GEN V be cam swapped without dropping the pan?

Can a GEN V be cam swapped without dropping the pan? I need to swap a cam in car and realise I cannot get the oil pump out without dropping the pan. Needless to say I have no desire to do this!
If the crank remains in the same position can the new cam be installed at the same rotation position as the old?

I did check out the video - thank you, and learned a couple of things.
Unfortunately, the cam gear would not drop down far enough to disengage the chain - it hits the tensioner. Another 0.200" and would have been golden.
I will need to pull the motor as this engine must not leak at all where it is going and sealing it in the car is a shaky go. While it is out I will paint it Pontiac Blue among other things..
