Default 6.2 max bore to clean up cylinders

If boring 6.2 to clean up cylinder walls? What size forged pistons would be required?

If you can get by with a .005 hone, you’ll find plenty of 4.070 piston offerings. I’m doing one right now, (Gen4 though) gonna hone it .005, to 4.070. No need to bore…hone only. Save you money…

Depends on the condition of the bores. If they look fine, but you just want to put some new crosshatches in them, then I would say just do a light flex hone. That way you can use stock size pistons and save on machine shop costs. If there is noticeable damage, then you might need to cut deeper. Typical over-bores sizes are 4.070, 4.075, and 4.080. There aren't as many options with the 4.080 size.

Good to know. I’ll have to get the block looked at and see if I’m able to get by with that? Broke ring landing and have one noticeable score right at the top of the sleeve?

go with a small as overbore as possible. these blocks suffer terrible casting shift on the cylinder liners.

I believe the casting shift issues were mainly with the LS3. I haven't really heard much about it on the LT stuff. Correct me if I'm wrong!?!?!

If you're boring the 6.2L (376ci) to clean up the cylinder walls, typically going .030 over will bring it to a 6.3L (383ci). For forged pistons, you’d want to select 6.2L + .030 pistons, which would be sized at 4.065 inches. Just make sure the pistons are designed for that specific bore size and your application’s power goals.

My experience has shown they are rarely, and I mean rarely ever straight if they have some mileage on them. They wear up top and are tight at the bottom, usually a couple to three thousandths. A flex hone isn't going to do anything but provide a cross hatch angle. If the bore isn't straight it is a waste of time unless your doing a sloppy rebuild for a quick flip or patch job. Just my .02.

Have you bored a 6.2 aluminum block .030? That’s gonna be a 4.095” bore. That’s a very bad idea, and pistons would be customs.
