Default BTR Spring Kit Install L83 Heads

I’m in the process of swapping cams and I’m swapping the springs on these heads.

It came with
-Springs
-Shims
-Locators
-Retainers and Locks

I called BTR and they stated that each guide needs 1 shim and 1 locator. Is this everyone else’s experience?

I always thought shims were to achieve a certain spring pressure. I am currently installing a shim before slipping the locator on. Is good?

I would check to see if your getting 1.78" from the spring locater to the retainer with the shim installed and if so then you're good to go. Also take a feeler gauge and check valve spring coil clearance between the inner and outer valve springs when at full lift. You're looking for a minimum of 0.060".

Have you checked the spring height to see what it is?
