Default DOD Delete question before I start re-assembly

I'm performing a DOD delete on an L83. I removed the VVT cam sprocket by walking off the chain and since it was my first time, it was time consuming but doable. My question is related to reinstalling it and if I should use my oil pump alignment bolts and remove the oil pump bolts if that will give me some extra clearance. Is there anything I should watch out for? Should I not mess with the pump and is there a chance I can damage the seal between the pump and oil pan? It's in a Silverado and dropping the pan really isn't an option.
Thanks

I pulled the motor on my wifes truck and did it on a motor stand. Those motors arent really hard to pull out. Once you pull the radiator you can get inside the engine bay and actually take everything loose. I wanted to pull my oil pan because from factory they dont come with gaskets and I wanted to put a gasket since they actually make them now and I wanted to block off the oil pressure relief valves. But answering your question if you put a small pin in the hole in the timing chain tensioner it should give you enough room that you should be able to put the chain back on the sprocket and slide it back on and then pull the pin. The oil pump pick up tune has a bolt in it down in the pan, your not pulling that oil pump without dropping the pan.

Thanks Tommy. I have the tensioner pinned and I also now I'm not removing the oil pump without removing the oil pan. I've really contemplated pulling the engine since its basically just a short block sitting in there but I have not (yet). If I broke the tensioner, then I'd have to. I also have the radiator out which was a PITA. I have a 2 post lift, engine hoist and other equipment to pull it but I'd rather not if I can somewhat easily walk the chain off and drop the sprocket low enough to move the chain around on the crank sprocket to line it up without walking the chain back off if I'm off a tooth.

honestly I started off exactly like you did and once I got to shortblock I decide to go ahead and pull it and do the work on a stand and my oil pan was leaking and I didnt notice while it was in the truck and I was able to put a new torque converter in the truck while I was at it and I did the thermal bypass on the transmission while I was at it and I deleted the vacuum pump and 3rd muffler. Now its a solid truck, all the failure points have been corrected.
