Should have checked the length & I asked if it was an after market cam. No way are 7.40's correct. If the pushrod is long enough to bend it is penetrating too deep inside the lifter. Especially with non-adjustable stock rockers. Could be that the roller on the lifter is failing before the inner spring fractures, which is usually the other way around, but, is possible. Check the oil pan drain plug for metal again. Also, pull the oil filter, cut it open, & look for metal shavings. Sounds like you've reached the point where the roller on the lifter is failing. Could also be a spun bearing or both. Further, there's a chance that even w/ the correct length pushrod in place, the lifter damage could be to the the point where they need to be replaced.
Ya, know what? Sell it to me, I'll fix it & then sell it back for twice the price. You're far too impatient.

Here's another way to explain what you just did. You pulled out the shortened, bent pushrods & replaced them w/ longer straight pushrods (longer because they weren't bent yet). So, now the condition is made worse because you didn't take the time to measure before running off to Summit. So, the longer pushrods penetrated deeper into the lifters & added further damage to already weak & damaged parts.
Sorry for the double post, but, I'm pulling my hair out as we speak.

many many aftermarket cams use 7.400's i havent had one yet that hasnt. the way i see it, the only way to bend a pushrod on these motors is to hit a valve from missing a shift or something.
the only thing i can think of is the cam was installed wrong. and ptv clearance is bad. and if there is longer pushrods in it, that doesnt help ptv at all.
when u put it back together and said it was fine till u got on it, i figure thats ptv issues.

lmao, I tried saying I know nothing about this sort of thing. Even with how you explained to measure what I need, I don't get it. Out of my ball park. Plus I think even if I measured and got the exact lenght, it still would have done this. The damage was already done, this just finalized it. lol@pulling hair out

Yah, they use 'em when they measure 7.40's w/ a centered valve wipe pattern. If PTV were an issue, she'd have been smokin' from bent valves or leaky seals or guides. Only thing to do now is to pull the heads & look.
I'll take it as a roller for $1000. & didn't I just say that the damage could have already been done???

those guides in those heads wont leak. i had 8 valves that bent at 7200 rpm. only two of them had hair line cracks. and all 32 seals were in perfect condition. and im not talking just barely bent valves. im talking BENT. I will try to find a pic.

LMAO@ $1000 as a roller. Thats all I can say about that~!!!
I'm not sure when I'm going to have time to pull this thing apart. Definatley pulling the heads off to see what the hell is going on. Too many guess's and I need to get it fixed.
I do have a sweet deal for someone if anyone is interested. I have a really nice 86 Chevy C20 truck 8' bed, never seen winter, 350sbc 350trans, runs and drives sweet,,,,,I'll trade this truck for a fresh nicely built LS1 installed in my car. Any takers?
