I read in the 7-2002 MTrend that the LS1 in the GTO/Monaro was rated at 302 HP and the weight was just over 3,600 lbs. They also "estimated" that it'd do the 1/4 in the high 14s at 98ish. Does this seem right? Is this par w/ the Holdens?

I saw that too and i was a bit dissapointed to see that. It predicted a run of 14.9, which would give it a great view of a GTP's back end. If this is supposed to "replace" the f-body, i would hope it is at least close to the model it replaces in straight line performance. I would hate to become the laughing stock of all of those mustang drivers/import drivers/a lot of other people.

Sounds good to me . I just don't like the price. Maybe when the Formula is paid off, I will earn just enough to squeek in a $32K car. We'll see.

I first knew about the Commadore back in 98 during a visit to Sydney. I gravitated to the Commadore SS models. I told myself, that would be the car I'd own if I lived there. Upon further research I soon found out that Holden is subsidiary of GM. I was shock that Australia and some parts of the Middle east get one of the baddest sedan GM makes and won't ship it here!? Now I'm just glad I don't have to move out of the country now to get one!
Plus my family will thank me for buying a true real world family car. I'll always enjoy the F-bodies cars but frankly the F-bodys aren't really design to seat 4 people. The GTO will also bridge the gap between the ol' timers who knew what a GTO was all about and still have a sensible street performer that you can seat your family in without complaints about who's gonna sit in the back! The only problem now is how much will it cost and how many will be produced. I imagine it'll be a huge demand and a very long long waiting list! Either way I'll be getting one!
Best of both worlds! No pun intended!
Now if FORD would only ship there Aussie V8 RWD car to the US to compete instead of the oversized 2003 Lincoln Murader.
