New Guy looking for some good information. Whats up guys, I am new to the LS engine world, In fact so new I dont have one yet. 
but one is comming as soon as I figure out the right engine for me. I am in the research process of buildoong a long travel sandrail. The LS1 seems to be the way to go but now there is LS2 LS7 blah blah blah.... it is kind of confusing. witch ones have the most bolt on stuff available and how much reliable power can I expect? I would like to be in the 500hp range on pump gas if possible. what do you guys think?
A little back ground on me... I have been into the old school stuff I have a 68 RS big block Camaro. I have owned it sence I was 14 been racing and driving it from 16 on.

Really they all have the same amout of bolt on stuff. ls1 and ls6 just have different heads(flow better) ls2 have bigger bore and have ls6 heads. Ls3 and Ls7 have differnt heads from all of them and again have bigger bore and more stroke on the ls7. It is easy to make a very reliable/streetable 400-450 rwhp NA with proper mods. all depends on yoiu end goal and what it is being used for

I guess I will be junk yard shopping for one. Is there a way to tell witch is witch? I have a 6.0 in my 2500 HD that seems like it would be a good engine but my goal is somting light and a torque monster. the car itself when done will be around 1800 lbs. but the sand robs a lot of HP so I want some to spare. Any ideas what years and models I can find a good donor engine at a somewhat low price?

welcome aboard. I would say any LS based engine out of a low milage wreck will get you your 500hp. Even an LS1 with heads and a cam will put out 500. Stock bottom end. You could even take a stock LS1 or LS6 and put a blower on it and get that same 500hp. Many Many options. Good luck with the build
