To be honest I'm not 100% sure but I don't think a LS1 ever came factory in the avalanche. You probably have a 5.3 V8 or possibly the 6.0 LQ engine if I'm wrong someone please correct me.

hello I am new... - 78 monte carlo 2001 ls1 conversion 4:11 rear gear. best set up I have ever had. hubcap sleeper. hurt a mustang gt's feelings over the weekend. Lots of good info in here. thanks
