Greetings
I've lurked this forum here and there just browsing random information since I like reading and learning about all sorts of things.
Recently, I bought an 01 Lincoln LS V8 with a locked engine (I got a good deal, and didn't have to deal with the problems of trying to get a fair price on an BMW) with the intent of fixing it. While I was 90% sure I wanted to swap an LS1 in, I still was considering just getting a working engine from a junkyard or buying wrecked LS. Of course, if I did that, I'd probably end up selling it and wouldn't make anything off it since it would be an auto, and I really don't want an auto (nothing against those that do).
After my dad and I started digging into the engine bay, I realized I do not like these complicated engines with all these wires all over the place doing who knows what, and already being aware of the history of issues and expenses the engine would end up costing me (it's a when not if situation), I just made the decision to dive in and do the swap. There were more than a few times we looked at each other and said "What the hell is that for?" "I don't know". Nothing against those that know all of that stuff, but it's nice having a simpler, easier to work on design.
My reason for actually posting an introduction, which I normally skip, is just to post an observation which may come as a surprise to some of the posters on these forums: I have not had the need to post a new thread about anything I've looked into about swaps, LS1's, T56's, power thresholds, etc -- all that general information is there if you know how to search (and I just use google). I've probably spent 40 hours just googling around drawing in information about every question I can think of over the past few weeks.
Anyway, thanks for the tons of information your forum (primary among others) has provided. I've already bought the engine and transmission, although the latter is an LT1 style needing the LS1 parts to mate it to the LS1. I anticipate the hardest thing about this will be getting the body computer to cooperate with the LS1 PCM.
Great to be here; I'm sure I'll have questions eventually when I get to more specific stuff that I cannot find an answer and cannot figure out on my own.
