Newbie LS engine guy
Newbie LS engine guy Hello, my name is Phil. I'm new to the LS engines, i'm used to the old school SBC/BBC.
I picked up a solid 1990 Ford Ranger. It is in need of a little power, the 4.0 v6 is sloooow. I originally planned a 5.0 in it, but soon found out how week the stock block was, so i thought, of course, a good old SBC. But that isn't anything really different. I wanted to be different, so i started looking into the LS based engines. They seem very impressive, but are very different to me.
Next week i will be picking up a 5.3 for the truck. Since the truck will be out of emmissions testing by the time it is complete, it will be carbed. Only immediate plans for the engine is too freshen it up, and install a more aggressive cam. Plans are to get a 6.0 block later to build a 408 on the side.
I'm sure i will have many questions when i start digging into the motor as to cam choice ,etc. I've been searching the site for weeks, so much info!
