New Guy From Los Angeles I have a 79 El Camino that I'm going to be swapping the 5.3 into. Right now I have a 400hp conventional SbC with a 100 shot of nitrous. Mated with a mild 700r4, 2200 stall, and 3.73 gears/ posi. Just hoping to get some MPG in my life.

Welcome! A 5.3 is nothing to snuff at... You could get away with throwing a cam in the 5.3 with a 100 shot, make similar power and get much better MPG.

You kinda just stated my game plan, lol. For now I'm just going to put a small cam and possible a ls6 intake just to get it operable with a 100 shot. Hopefully on a month or two ill be able to do a more aggressive h/c/I.
