Hi people! Where is the LS series for dummies section??? I have a 1990 GMC Suburban that I am tossing around the idea of an LS engine when the tbi350 dies. The whole ride has 235,000 miles on it and still runs good (knocking on wood). I'm here to learn as much knowledge as I can about the LS engines along with wiring and ecm's. I'm sure I will ask stupid questions, just bare with me as I will do my best to try to understand what I am being told. It might be tomorrow when the 350 dies or it might be 2 years. I want to learn as much as I can so when the time comes I will be more knowledgeable on what I am working with. As far as what I would like to do in my mind would be a crate gm LS376/480 reason being I've kinda got my mind set on the 6.2 and I like the idea of 480hp with a warranty. I'm not sure what kind of fuel mileage these things get but surely it won't be horrible. I know I've read several people say that the cam in that engine is the best possible cam. Where it did shine was in a test comparing camshafts. It made the most torque at 3,000rpms than any other cam. Being in a heavier vehicle I feel that would be better for me. I'm not going to a racetrack but maybe once just to see what kind of time I can pull out of it. I also want to use the gm performance wiring harness and pretuned ecm which is something I want to learn more about because I want to hook all of my factory gauges up with the wiring harness. I've already read that guys that run that harness and ecm still have to get tuning done. Going through a used wiring harness looks like a nightmare but I know several people take the time and do it. For a transmission I have it in my mind to get a 4L85E with a gm controller. So thanks for letting me aboard and all help and advice will be appreciated.
