Long time reader, finally joined
Anyway, a bit about myself. 26 originally from VT. Im in the AF active duty station in Forida. Just came from New Mexico. I have a 96 Nissan 240sx that had an SR20DET in it putting about 350 to the wheels and then one day lost oil pressure and spun a number 2 rod bearing. I was contemplating rebuilding it for the 6K to have it done right but even then those engines are still prone to spinning bearings so I decided I was going to swap in a reliable, strong motor. So I decided I was going to commit myself to the LS1.
After doing A LOT of research and a little goal realistic thinking, I decided to go with the 5.3 LM7. I have a guy who has one out of a 2002 Chevy Tahoe that Im gunna pick up hopefully very soon. I decided to go with the LM7 for price reason and possible future (distant future) plans (boost).
I know Im going to have to change the accessories over to the fbody configuation as well as get an ls1 or ls6 intake manifold. Ill be using a brand new wiring harness and a swap kit so headers, driveshaft, etc wont be an issue. I will be sourcing a T56 for my application.
As far as goals. I want to make it a mean street sweeper while having reliability for a daily driver. So plans for modifications planned are: A mildly aggressive cam with springs, retainers and pushrods. I would contemplate the valves as well but that will only happen if I take the heads off. I also intend on doing the obvious required intake manifold with a ported throttle body and some holly valve cover to delete the coil brackets (just to clean up the engine a little). As far as fuel I will be goimg with the already installed walbro 255, some FAST fuel rails, and maybe larger injectors and last but certainly not least a good tune.
So now that Ive made a lengthy introduction, Ill brimg it to an end by saying that I look forward to listening and learning as this will be the first Domestic engine Ive ever really dealt with and I hope I can be a contributing member to this board. Thanks.
