New From Texas
I'm currently in the pre-swap stage of transplanting a LS2 from a 06 Corvette into my 1983 El Camino. I've purchased the motor and it should be delivered in about 3 or 4 weeks. It will probably be another month past that before I'm ready to start - as my garage is currently occupied by an 86 GMC Caballero I am rebuilding.
The Elky is currently running a 350 Crate with a F.A.S.T. Easy EFI and 700-R4 tranny. I'm keeping the 700-R4 so, my original thought was to use a carb manifold and the Easy EFI, with a MSD 6LS-2 controller - to eliminate the need to change to a cable throttle body, modify/buy a new harness, re-flash the ECM etc.. I've since learned that MSD makes a harness the will hook their 6LS-2 controller to the stock fuel injection. So, I'm re-thinking that as an option. I would still have to swap to a cable operated throttle body and work out the bracketry for the throttle cable, tranny TV cable and cruise control.
I've read a number of threads about G-Body swaps and problems with oil pan and front accessory fitment. Most of those were using the 5.3 truck engines and accessories. It looks like the Corvette accessories may be a tighter package and, might fit better. Measuring the current on the 350 and comparing with the LS pan measurements looks like the stock corvette pan might fit also, not sure about the Corvette AC compressor clearing the frame.
Anyone out there done this particular engine/body swap?
I'm looking forward to being part of the group. Here is a picture of me, the better half and the Elky.
