Bls1phemy

Hey guys I'm new here. I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota I have been saving up money to build a ls 383 stroker with a 5 or 6 speed. I know a guy that has a 5.7 but it has been sitting outside for a while and it is full of water. I'm not sure if it is iron or aluminum. I am going to go look at it Monday. I think he said it was a '99 block. Where should I look for the casting numbers and such? I will probably pull one of the heads and see what kind of condition the cylinders are in too.
