Default New guy with 1977 cutlass

So here I am. Scouting the internet for info on ls engine swaps. I picked up a 1977 cutlass a couple months ago from a junk yard auction for $225. I was surprised that the little 260 started right up after all those lonely years...but... It's only a 260 and it needs to go.

Seems like there is a lot of info out there for later model cutlass g-bodies. I haven't been able to find much of anything about my car though.

Any info would help. Thanks, Mike

welcome to site. that car will swallow a 5.3 well. change frame mounts out for sbc bolt them in rite place. set of slider mounts on engine will allow you to get it in there. depending on what tranny you go with you might need to move tranny crossmember. everything frame wise is same as 73-77 chevelle/Malibu.

Thanks for the info, 76larkman.
I see you put an electric fan on yours. Aren't there some 5.3l engines that have the regular fan on them that attaches to the engine? Would I be able to just keep that style set up and use the stock fan shroud that came in my cutlass?

I would like to get 400hp but I don't really need more than that. Could I achieve this by just installing a different cam?

yes pick ups and suv's have regular fan. Cam I don't know what will work well. I installed my 5.3 stock as it was 315 factory rated horsepower. L33 engine in my skylark. I used Lt1Swap.com on pcm programming. Mailed to him and got it back in a week. He put a street tune in it. Car sounds bout like the 268 comp cam did in the 355 sbc I had in car. He also has great wiring info. Im by Cedar Rapids how far from you? 319-202-0216 Richard if want to chat.
