New to the forum Longtime lurker here. Been reading as much I can and got inspired by sloppy mech to do an ls swap. Picked up a 5.3 in July and just finished the swap about a week ago.
Little about the truck: '73 short bed step side. 350/350 swapped to a 5.3/80e.
The motor is bone stock at the moment, got it for $300 fully dressed, wanted to put as little into it as possible to find out if was good. All I found was a broken valve spring, easy $7 fix. Runs like a champ now.
Got the 80e for $80, has an HD2 kit installed. Stock converter.
To keep it as cheap as possible, got as many parts as I could from the junkyard and thinned out the harness myself. Only new parts are the fuel system, swap mounts, 80e flexplate+spacer, and HD2 kit.
Total cost of the swap came out to a little over $1000.
Also have a F150 8.8 (3.55 w/trac-lok) that I need to cut down and install. Should be much better compared to the 3.0x open diff thats in the truck right now.
Later on down the road I want to put a cam in it with some boost, but for now I just want to enjoy it and work out all the little kinks that come with a swap.
