Another new guy Hello all. I’m Jason and another LS swap hopeful. The build in my future is a 1959 F100 with more rust in the body than metal. Frame and all else is great. Want to daily it - hate appliance cars.
I bought this truck in 2009 with a Chevy drivetrain. The very common SBC 350 / TH350 combo. Runs good, nothing special. I’ve been back and forth on how to upgrade. I swapped in a 2006 crown Vic front end several years ago. Planned on aluminum heads and maybe an ignition system. Even bought that newish FiTech EFI. You know, just like every other SBC build ever.
Anyway, I don’t have any problems with those that want to go that way, its a tried and true method in hot-ridding, but I just can’t see it after seeing the crazy performance I’ve seen with the whole sloppy mechanics approach, let alone the simple upgrades that put the gen iii up to 400hp in NA trim. Anyway, I’m all but 100% sure my future holds a high mileage 4.8/5.3 and 4L80e. If I go turbo that’ll be down the road. I’m not deep-pocketed enough to call that shot yet, but if I sell my bike and my current combo then I’d be pretty far towards it (I think). But I like my bike, so there’s no rush.
All that said I’ve read a lot, researched a lot, and plan to spend the next year building out the plan, gathering the parts and swapping my current setup with something a little newer and modern. Wish me luck. I look forward to talking with you in the forums - sorry in advance for any stupid questions. Well, not real sorry.
