Greetings from Ohio
What I do have is a 1987 Monte Carlo LS and with that, I have also acquired a clean LT1 out of a 1997 Camaro which I plan to swap into my Monte. I am here to source info and possibly get in contact with those who are great with LT1's, what to look for, what to keep an eye on and what works great. So, my Monte is as follows:
1987 Monte Carlo LS, 88,000 original miles (74,000 of which were not from me)
Factory 305 (Summit intake & Edelbrock 650, nothing special)
200-4R transmission
.308 rear end
Small cowl because hood clearance
Rust
(I didnt know the pictures would be gigantic....)
So, for my goals, I want this to be a real nice streetable car. Few more ponies wont hurt because god knows how much of a lump the factory 305's of the 80's were (Wasnt even lucky enough to get a H.O. 305) End goal for the moment is 400HP, obviously anymore is always welcome, as long as the trans holds. I've seen many people go to TPIS and pick up a ZZ409 cam, plus 52mm throttle body and matching heads to get some healthy gains, so that is my current direction.
For the sake of budget, I would like to keep my 200-4R, and by seeing some posts earlier here, I see that it can be done, which is fantastic for budget. For the rear end, I have an entire 1981 Monte shell with an unknown geared rear end. What I do know is that it is a posi rear end. (Isnt there a way to find out whats gears you have by counting the rotations of the tire while turning the imput?)
The LT1 I picked up, I currently dont have pictures of, but... it needs some things. like... all the accessories, headers (I have those) and also has an intake which has a hole in the back for a distributor (which, i have an HEI) I am a bit unfamiliar with LT1's but i do know they had that ignition known as Opti-spark which sat behind the water pump. Again, no accessories on it and I dont think the opti-spark was there either.
Anyway, i've droned on, so, hello guys
