New old guy
Hi everyone. I’m yet another new guy that’s interested in making my car better. It’s a 69 Camaro big block with a Tremec 5 speed that’s very fun but always looks to improve. Is an LS swap such an upgrade? Which version? Thanks for your input.
Welcome to LS1Tech! Nice car sir. Picture this and decide for yourself...a small block, high winding engine that weighs in at half of what you’ve got now, capable of big block power and torque (I’m 616 hp, 525 torque, to the tire), DOES NOT leak oil, starts easily when left fuel injected, is as reliable as the day is long, and will likely increase the value of your car. Sounds good doesn’t it? I run an aluminum block 6.0 liter, re-sleeved with Darton sleeves, 4.155” bore, 4” stroke 12.42:1 compression on 93 octane. These LS engines are efficient! CNC’d TrickFlow LS7 heads done by Tony Mamo, big solid roller camshaft, etc.
Do your homework sir. Budget is key here as in anything. Lots of guys buy a $500 junkyard iron block 5.3, add a turbo and a good tune, and see 800 plus horsepower, out of an engine that will last another 100k miles, but if it doesn’t, your only out another $500 and a weekend.

500hp? Look for an LS3, which is an aluminum 6.2 liter engine. With long tube headers, and a camshaft change your there.
Youll need a fuel system re-do. Engine requires 58lbs. of fuel pressure at idle. Several different ways to do this. Engine will require a harness and an ECM as well. How much (budget) are you looking to spend?

If you do the work yourself, you can do it for that. I’ll tell you the truth...I probably wasted $3k buying parts that I ‘’thought” was a deal. Be diligent in your research for what you really want, and don’t be afraid to spend a LITTLE more now for quality vs. paying twice later. You get what you pay for. It will save you big time in the long run. I can’t tell you how many guys doing LS swaps can say the same thing.
