Noob Just registered and I'm a sorting through a mountain of information.
I've acquired my late fathers 1955 Chevy Nomad and I want to update the drivetrain. It currently has a 305 from a late 80s firebird, but I would like to ls swap the car. I'm not looking for something with a ton of horsepower, reliability and the ability for long road trips is what I'm looking for. Trying to narrow down the most economical swap so I can start to try to locate an engine. I'm leaning towards a ls from a truck, but there are some many different versions.

Welcome to LS1Tech! Man, the decisions are many for you. If I were you, considering of course the nostalgia and the prominence of your ride....it was dads after all....I think I’d go for a new crate setup. Your not looking for a zillion hp, just a great running, super reliable cruiser, so I’d lean toward a GM crate ls3 with a new auto tranny, and controller. Warranty, peace of mind knowing it’s new, and 465? Hp. I mean...you could save some coin going to a junkyard, but it’s dads car!
